This versatile and hardy genus of plants are unsurpassed as groundcovers for difficult or exposed conditions.  They come in a variety of colors and have undergone selective breeding to improve their growth habit and flower color.  During the mid nineties the Starshine collection was released and have been included in the Larkman Nurseries range of perennials.

‘Starshine’ is a nice compact low growing shrub with deep pink flowers during spring and summer.  It has soft green foliage and grows to approximately 50cm tall by 1.5 m wide.  It likes full sun and good drainage.  Though not necessary, an annual prune will keep it healthy and vigorous and should be followed by a feed  with Osmocote Outdoor Trees and Shrub.

Osteospermum prostratum ’Starshine’ makes a good border plant to any large shrubs such as Ceanothus ‘Snow Flurry’, Ceratostigma wilmottianum or Correa ‘Annie’s Delight’.  It can also be planted in a low bed with plants like Diascia ‘Red Ace’ or Diascia ‘Joyce’s Choice’.
