Elijah Blue is the bluest if all the Festuca   It has fine icy blue foliage in a tight and compact 20 to 30cm dome.  It will tolerate a broad range of conditions and is easy to grow.  It has soft buff flowers in summer that contrast nicely with the blue leaves.  Feed with Osmocote Outdoor Trees and Shrubs after flowering and divide every two years or as needed.

Blue fescue is native to Europe and is often, mistakenly listed as F. cinerea.which is a look-alike species. 'Elijah Blue' is widely grown in Europe and UK where there are several seed grown strains which all aren’t the same blue intensity. The name comes from the prophet Elijah the Tishbite, whose bed by the brook Cherith was only grass, and who in that time of drought in Israel defeated the priests of Baal thus restoring the rainfall and the grasses for the horses & livestock.

Fescues need a nice sunny spot but will also perform well in a light but shaded spot.  Plant in pots on the verandah, as a border to paths and gaden beds or as a small hedge in a formal garden.  The foliage contrasts well with the purplefoliage of many Heuchera or the lime green of dwarf conifers
